Why Should Pagans Become Environmental Activists? By: Ian Drake We are of the earth. Our DNA and our spirit make us human-beings. Our DNA and our spirit come from the same place as all living things on this planet. Our Mother Earth. Our Goddess. The DNA and spirit mof our ancestors is a part of us. As our ancestors were a part of the DNA and spirit of all living things on this planet. The actions and results of humanity and technology are killing the planet. We are killing ourselves. We may succeed in never becoming ancestors. By our very definition as pagans, we are environmental activists. By connecting our spirit through ritual with the earth and other living things that share our world, we are participating in the earth as a living entity. How can we not then do everything we are able to do to end the wholesale destruction of our planet? Each of us to our own abilities. I'm not saying everybody needs to lock down to a tree, (although I won't stop you) but that every one of us should do what we can. Certainly more than we are doing now. I feel that I have a spiritual and personal obligation to communicate with everyone I can and encourage them to talk with other people. And start taking action to end our subservience to the machine that is killing us all. Americans live the most sheltered lives of all people on the planet. We consume more and waste more natural resources than any other people on the planet. WAKE UP! THINK FOR YOURSELF! Go hug a tree. While there are still a couple left standing.
