2003-02-19 * Short Introduction to the Chakras
In some traditional schools, a student wouldn't begin moving Kundalini energy until the Abyss has been crossed and the chakra path cleared. The ancients say that this is the safest way of dealing with that much energy.
Instinctual energy originates in the chakras. If you stop and think about where you feel most of the emotion related to each instinct, you will understand the chakras. (ie "a fear in the pit of my stomach", "all choked up with emotion", "I love you with all my heart".) As energy and emotion are equal, it takes negative emotion to block of any of the instinctual energy. When a human child undergoes a negative experience while learning how the world works, he begins to block his instinctual reactions. These chakras may stay blocked for years. It is the student's job to unblock each one as needed.
Primal Instincts: These are the instincts we share with most animals.(As the scientific studies are not complete, it is hard to say whether insects and reptiles share these same instincts.) Because it takes negative emotional experiences to block off instinctual energy to certain chakras, human children are trained by their environment to ignore certain instincts, and therefore block their chakras.
Sex: The instinct to perpetuate the species. This chakra is blocked in sexual abuse victims.
Hunger: The instinct to feed the physical body. This chakra block will result in eating disorders.
Fight/Flight: The instinctual reaction to danger. Physical abuse will block this chakra.
Clanning: The instinct to create bonds of love with other humans. Dysfunctional families tend to block this chakra.
Advanced Instincts: These are the instincts unique to higher lifeforms. It may be that these instincts developed later in our evolution than the first four. You may find, also, that some humans seem to be lacking these instincts altogether. This is because they have not been taught to activate them as they were growing.
Communication: The instinct to share one's thoughts and ideas. Lying, or being lied to, will block this chakra.
Curiosity: The instinct to know more, to seek out the unknown. Having one's intelligence degraded will block this chakra.
Spirit: The instinct to seek out a higher power. I have never seen this chakra blocked by any student who truly wishes to learn magick.
